2014 NEWS ...
This past May I retired after 30 years of teaching in the SouthWestern City Schools!!! PRAISE OUR GOD!! : )
I am so excited about what God has done and is preparing me to do! I am now available for full-time music ministry!
I am also working on a book called "Working with Children and Keeping Your Sanity!" This is a guide for children's music ministry workers. I've had this in my spirit for a long time. My son, Mark, has been a constant source of encouragement for me to complete this task, and now that I'm retired, I have begun to sit down and get started! Pray with me that I will be able to hear from God and write what He wants me to write. I hope to complete this book this year, and I pray that it will be a help and a blessing!
Last year was rough for my family. My mother and my youngest grand daughter, Lailah, were both close to death. But, God did not see fit to take them, thank God! Today they are both doing well. Lailah starts kindergarten this year! Although my mother is in pain daily, she is still managing to take it one day at a time! My son, Mark, completed his doctorate after much struggle, and my youngest son, Stephen, is employed full time after several years of unemployment. My oldest grand daughter, Amirah, has blossomed into a beautiful and talented young lady! She is in seventh grade, just completed her 4th production with the Columbus Children's Theatre, and has already auditioned for the next show!! We are so grateful to God for His many blessings.
I have a long list of things that I want to do now that I am retired! Pray my strength! Among them is doing more training of others who work with children's choirs, continuing to compose, and do workshops, so call me! I would be happy to come to your city and share the music and the message God has given through me!
blessings and peace to all of you!
2013 NEWS ...
The summer goes by sooooooooo fast!!! But it has been a wonderful summer! The Lord has truly been blessing and opening new doors for my ministry! I was able to do my first workshop at Silverlake Church in Pearland, Texas (just outside of Houston). Gospel artist, Earnest Pugh, was the host for that workshop. They have already begun talking about bringing me back next year!
I also had the opportunity to be an instructor for the National Association of the Church of God's Inservice training Institute (ISTI) at Anderson University. I taught a class "Working with Children And Keeping Your Sanity" for adults who work with children's choirs. We had a wonderful and blessed time that week! I pray that more doors will open for me to be able to share and train others to work with children's choirs.
The Gospel Music Workshop of America was held in Cincinnati, Ohio this year and I was able to present several of my songs in the New Literature for Children's Choirs class, which is taught by Deborah Shipps. Looking forward to being in Atlanta next summer!
My last summer workshop was in Akron, Ohio with the Youth Excellence Performing Arts Workshop (YEPAW) under the direction of Leslie Parker Barnes! This is an awesome workshop week for teenagers to be trained and ministered to. They have been ministering to teenagers for over 20 years! This year was the first time they have included chlidren, ages 4-12 (WEPAW). They had ove 200 teens to partcipate, taking classes from dance, percussion, photography, art, creative writing, drama, step, and more! It was an awesome experience. Even my little ones had an opportunity to take percussion and dance along with my vocal music class. The teens recorded a CD and one song featured my WEPAW kids! What an exciting way to finish my summer! If you ever have an opportunity to witness a YEPAW concert in Akron, Ohio, you shouldn't miss it! To see so many teens singing praises to God is an overwhelming experience, and one you should not miss!
We need to lift up our childrren and teens to God. Pray for their protection--especially in light of what has happened with Trayvon Martin, and so many others. There is a remnant of young people who truly love the Lord! I pray for God's protection over them, and that their lives and their spirits will be a light in their schools and their homes, that their friends will want to know the God that keeps them!
In August I will begin my LAST year of teaching in the public schools! Whoooo hooooo! : )
30 years is long enough!! As I prepare for retirement, please keep me in your prayers, that God will continue to enlarge my territory, that doors will open that I might continue to teach and write for all God's children.
Blessings and peace to you today and always!
