Age-appropriate, scripture based music and skits for children
Cynthia Gowens has been a composer of children's music for many years. She is known for her age-appropriate, scripture based, anointed children's music! She has written children's musicals, skits, and songbooks for children's choirs. She has also produced an instructional video entitled Simple Signing and Singing for Children's Choirs. Cynthia has presented her songs nationally at the Gospel Music Workshop of America each year since 1991. Children throughout the United States and abroad are singing her music!
She has retired after 30 years of service as an elementary reading specialist. As a composer, Cynthia has released three CD and songbook collections of her children's praise and worship music--Created to Worship, Sing Praises to God and Let Us Worship! Her Wonderful Rainbow World CD and songbook project features music she composed for use in the elementary school classroom.
Gowens is also a published author. Her new book “Working with Children and Keeping your Sanity! A guidebook for children’s music ministry workers” is available online at Amazon and Barnes and Noble.
Cynthia has been an instructor for the Hampton University Minister’s Conference for the past three years, teaching a class on working with children’s choirs. She has served as the guest clinician for children's music workshops at churches across the country for over 20 years and was the director for the city of Columbus’ Martin Luther King, Jr. Children’s Choir, a 150 voice choir which performed annually for the city’s MLK celebration.
Ms. Gowens is the founder and director of the annual Columbus Children's Mass Choir Workshop and Concert, an interdenominational community choir which has been in existence since 1997. She is also the visionary for the Children's Music Ministry Workers Conference, a training conference for adults who work with children’s and youth choirs.
She has been blessed with two sons who are awesome musicians-- Mark (Ruth) and Stephen, and two beautiful and talented granddaughters, Amirah Joy and Lailah Grace!
Many are called but few are chosen. Cynthia has indeed been called and chosen to write for and work with children. God has also given her a desire to train and equip others whom He has called to work with children. It is her prayer that the message in her music will be a blessing to the body of Christ.
